Designed for transporting mine carts on narrow-gauge underground railways in main haulage drifts of mines that are hazardous due to gas and dust, where the use of mining electric locomotives of increased reliability (RP) is permitted. The AM8D electric locomotive is a two-axle locomotive with individual frame suspension and a single cabin. The paired 2AM8D electric locomotive consists of two two-axle sections connected by a flexible articulated coupling, with two cabins at the ends of the sections. The locomotives are equipped with a rheostat-free control system with battery sectioning and an electrodynamic braking system. The power source is battery batteries.
